This second version of the sample research story actually uses storytelling elements - character and plot - though in a rudimentary way. My next step would be to try and prune unnecessary elements away - e.g. the original situation (before the MOOC), which takes an entire minute to tell, is not really necessary for the message - it bloats the story and makes it less effective.
